Letters of Life

Long Weekend Afternoon

Date: Last day of the long CNY’10 weekend.
Time: The languid hour just before lunch.

Judith & Leng have perfected the art of looking moody

The visit by the NLCC singles proved to be one of the highlights of the Year of the Tiger. Conversation flowed like the food and drinks, and Domino’s was on the lunch menu. Then the table was cleared so we could play THINGS.

The game was hilarious, or rather, some pretty smart people around knew how to pull the wool. Lots of second-guessing.

I had fun, I was relaxed. This wasn’t just a typical Lunar home visit to trade mandarins and pick up angpows. Maybe it was the dynamics among everyone present: We all shared our Wednesday evenings running, sweating it out, eating it back in. Maybe all that helped us feel innately relaxed with each other. There was an unusual tranquility in the room, and the conversation meandered around the cookies, kueh lapis, tarts, and oranges like a river on a lazy day when nobody had gone to work for a few days.

Tell me what you think.
