Something About Level 42

Maybe it was because their music brings me back to those brilliant days of youth, those diamond days.

I was done with grueling exams, tired of studying. I was heading to the States for college. It was summer, the days were long, friends were plentiful, I kept meeting new people, I wore my Wayfarers all the time.

I was into the jazz-funk of Brit band Level 42 without even knowing much of the genre of music. I just thought their sound was the coolest thing on earth, their songs were plugged into my ears wherever I went, and the driving pulse made me strut like I was on a catwalk.

Listen to their biggest hit, Something About You, and you’ll understand.

Bands have come and gone since, my tastes have changed, evolved, I stopped listening to Level 42 a long long time ago. But they are coming round to where I live, this sunny island in the sea, and I can’t resist.

Is it the lure of the past? Thanks to Youtube, the band lives on, and I am happy to say, so does their genius.
